• A total of 7 new medical centres have been opened in Syokimau, Kitale, Kenol, Limuru, Karatina and in Nairobi’s Upperhill and Langata areas, bringing the total number of operational medical centres to 33 in the country.

Nairobi, 15th December 2020... Equity Afia, the medical franchise of Equity Group Foundation (EGF), has expanded its national footprint to 33 fully fledged outpatient medical centres. This year, a total of 22 new clinics have been established, signifying EGF’s commitment to offer increased access to quality healthcare, in line with the Government’s Big Four agenda to offer affordable healthcare for all.

“The move to open 7 new medical centres has been driven by the country’s demand for increased access to quality healthcare services at affordable costs. We have opened the new clinics within various localities including business districts such as Upperhill, urban residential areas such as Langata and in counties outside Nairobi and its environs because we wish to cater for the needs of all Kenyans ,” said Reuben Mbindu, Executive Director Equity Group Foundation.

All Equity Afia medical centres offer comprehensive outpatient care, specialised medical care as well act as wellness centres for all Kenyans.

“The Equity Afia medical centres provide multiple services under one roof including paediatrics, family medicine, gynaecology and obstetrics, dental and optical services among others. The facilities also act as wellness centres where Kenyans can get nutritional and lifestyle advise as well as enjoy access to consultants for their regular medical check-ups and examinations.” added Mr. Mbindu.

Commenting during the official opening of Equity Afia Upperhill clinic at KMA Centre, KMA CEO who is also the Medical Officer In-charge of the clinic said, “As an ELP alumni I am delighted to be part of Equity Group Foundation’s efforts to better Kenya’s healthcare system. We hope to promote a positive health seeking behaviour amongst Kenyans by offering easily accessible healthcare services offered at affordable rates.”

Equity Afia is an initiative under the Equity Group Foundation that is using franchising principles to train and monitor a network of medical entrepreneurs, who are qualified alumni of the Equity Leaders Program (ELP). The main goal is to ensure the sustained improvement of the health and well-being of Kenyans by increasing access to and utilization of quality, affordable and standardized healthcare.

Equity Afia model of clinics are run by franchise entrepreneurs who double up as Medical Officer- In-Charges and have employed close to 500 professionals in the fields of nursing, pharmaceutical services, dental, optical, laboratory services and front office support staff contributing to employment creation in Kenya.

The Equity Afia medical centres are fully-fledged multi-speciality centres offering outpatient medical care services such as general consultation, specialised clinics, dental, optical, dermatological, paediatric and nutrition services, among others and are supported by ultra-modern laboratories and in-house pharmacies that stock quality, generic and branded drugs.

In Nairobi and its evirons, Equity Afia has operational medical centres in Upperhill, Langata, Imara Daima, Githurai, Kasarani, Buruburu, Kayole, Kawangware, Kahawa West, Utawala, Embakasi, Nairobi’s CBD along Biashara Street, Limuru, Kikuyu, Thika, Ruiru, Kiambu, Ruaka, Eastern Bypass at Kamakis, Ongata Rongai, Kitengela, Ngong and Syokimau.

The other medical centres are located in Kenol,Karatina, Kitale, Kakamega, Meru, Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru and Naivasha.

Equity Afia has instituted a rollout plan of setting up and operationalizing more outpatient health facilities over the next few years. These will be distributed across the country to ensure presence and coverage in each county.
